Dublin City Centre is once again set to resound to the excitement and vibrancy of the Lunar New Year.

Dublin City Centre is set to burst into life once again as it celebrates the Lunar New Year, a vibrant event marked by renewal, joy, and community.

Known widely as Chinese New Year, this special occasion transcends borders and is celebrated across numerous Asian cultures, including Vietnam, Korea, Mongolia, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Brunei.

The festivities bring people together to honour age-old traditions while showcasing the cultural richness that these communities contribute to Dublin’s identity.

As part of the Lunar New Year Festival, Dublin Town, in collaboration with Dublin City Council’s City Coordination Office and local businesses such as the Asia Market, is organising a day of lively street events.

The celebrations on Sunday, February 9 on Drury Street, Suffolk Street and Capel Street, between 12 noon and 5.00pm, will mark the start of the Year of the Snake with an Asian cultural extravaganza of food, music, dance and a 10-metre long Asian dragon and snake.

Visitors can expect captivating performances from talented Asian musicians, whose music will fill the streets with energy and excitement. Traditional dances and lively displays will provide a visual feast, drawing crowds of all ages to join in the merriment.

Food lovers are in for a treat, as local businesses and vendors will offer a wide array of authentic Asian cuisine.

From steaming dumplings to flavourful noodles, the streets will be lined with irresistible aromas and tastes that reflect the diversity of Asian culinary traditions.

The festival is an excellent opportunity for Dubliners and visitors alike to immerse themselves in the rich flavours and textures of these cuisines.

Children will also have plenty to enjoy, with a range of fun activities designed to spark their creativity and curiosity.

Arts and crafts stations will allow young attendees to engage with traditional Asian art forms, while cultural displays provide insights into the heritage and significance of the Lunar New Year.

“The Asian community has brought so much to Dublin and are now a core element of our diverse and engaging city,” said Dublin Town CEO Richard Guiney.

“This diversity is what makes Dublin such an amazing place to live and visit. “It is wonderful to have the opportunity to share this time of celebration with our Asian friends and colleagues and enjoy the festivities on the streets of Dublin City Centre.

“Dubliners will have the chance mark the beginning of the Year of the Snake while sampling the rich tapestry of Asian culture and cuisine.”

Whether it’s savouring mouth-watering dishes, marveling at the performances, or participating in hands-on activities, the Lunar New Year Festival promises a memorable day for everyone.
