The star's medley of Make Me and G-Eazy’s Me, Myself and I didn't quite land with viewers. Poor audio, lip-synching and clunky choreography led to an overall awkward, flat feel only a small step up from 2007's rendition of Gimme More.
Kanye West's speech was predictably unpredictable, with namechecks for Taylor Swift, Steve Jobs, Walt Disney and a comment on Chicago's high murder rate. It was a boil the kettle moment.
True to form, Drake gave us our most meme-able moment of the night, when he went in for a smooch with Rihanna and was friend-zoned so hard.
