Ant and Dec even sent a pep talk to fictional character after falling for viral prank.

The presenters who are currently in South Africa filming I’m A Celebrity All Stars  might be experts at tricking others in their iconic Saturday Night Takeaway segment, Undercover, but this time it was them falling victim to a clever prank.

In a new social media trend, fans of The Summer I Turned Pretty have been passing off the show’s wild storyline as if it were real, just to see how their unsuspecting friends and family would react.

The hit Prime Video series, which wraps up on Wednesday, centres on a love triangle between Belly (Lola Tung) and brothers Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) and Conrad (Christopher Briney). By season three (spoilers if you didn’t already know), Belly is preparing to marry Jeremiah after four years together, even though her lingering feelings for Conrad remain obvious. Cue chaos.

One employee decided to test the trick out on Ant and Dec, pretending the drama was happening to a friend while casually eating a banana.

"My friend was meant to get married yesterday, and it got cancelled the day before. Because the groom’s brother said that he was in love with her. And they used to date five years ago," she explained.

Dec’s jaw dropped while Ant shouted, ‘shut up!’ as she continued. "So, on the wedding day, she told her fiancé, and was like “Your brother just told me he loved me last night still, I pick you.” ‘And he was like, “Can you look me in the eye and say that you don’t have any feelings for him?”

And, she said, “I can’t do that. There’s still a part of me that will always love Connie.”

"Oh my god that’s brilliant,’"Ant said, while Dec quickly corrected: "It’s not brilliant." Still, Ant clarified with a grin: "No, what I mean is, as a story. Not for them!"

Dec couldn’t get enough, even asking her to repeat the tale. The woman went on to reveal her friend had ‘now flown to Paris’ and was still hung up on the other brother.

The presenters grew increasingly invested, with Dec even removing his glasses in stunned silence. "This is a bit large for me,"Dec admitted, while Ant joked: "Tell you what, there’s a TV show in this!"

Ant then sweetly suggested sending Jeremiah ‘a message from Ant and Dec to cheer him up’ before joking, "more fish in the sea".

Unsurprisingly, fans online loved their reactions.

After the truth was revealed, the pair decided to play along, sending a message of support to the fictional Jeremiah.

We were so shocked to hear about our colleague’s friend Jeremiah yesterday. We just wanted to send our love and let him and his family know we’re thinking of them. @the summer i turned pretty

In a video on their official Instagram, Dec said: "We just wanted to send a message to say, keep your chin up, keep smiling."
