Dublin City Council has come out against controversial plans for more than 650 apartments in Raheny.

It's recommended An Bord Pleanala throw out the proposals for homes beside St Anne's Park.

A developer has applied to build the complex, a year after it was initially turned down.

Local rep Naoise O'Muiri thinks the council's made the right call:

"The city council's issues are very much to do with biodiversity and I think that's fair

"There are protected species in this area, we're on the edge of a biosphere, Dublin Bay biosphere

"These issues have to be taken into account

"People are determined to protect the species", he told us.
