An epidemic of domestic abuse is ripping through Irish society.
That's according to Fingal TD, Alan Farrell, who has obtained figures from the Department of Justice.
They show that the number of domestic abuse incidents reported to Gardaí so far this year stands at almost 34 and a half thousand - an increase of 56 per cent in four years.
CEO of Safe Ireland, Mary McDermott, says the increase is not just down to a raising of awareness around the problem
"If you have a figure of 22,000 in 2017 and 34 instances just simply reported, you're looking at the tip of an iceberg.
"The problem isn't really mitigated by virtue of awareness alone; it is a large scale problem."
