A million euros is being given to DEIS schools, to provide free books for pupils.
The Education Minister, Joe McHugh, made the announcement at St Malachy’s National School in Finglas on Thursday morning.
It's Principal Owen Dolan says the money will help to boost kids’ literacy levels:
"It helps us improve the literacy base of our children," he said.
"All studies have shown that they are disadvantaged a regards literacy in the community.
"It's our role in schools to provide them with as much literacy based activities as possible.
"When we receive any increase in funding it means we can provide more resources for the children and hopefully improve their literacy levels."
