With Christmas fast approaching, scammers are already out in force preying on vulnerable people.
Members of the public are being warned of a worrying trend of bogus door to door bucket collections around parts of the capital.
We’ve seen this type of scam in the run up to Christmas before, but concerns have been expressed that this year, fraudsters are upping their game, by targeting people earlier.
Women’s Aid has told us that it has been brought to their attention, that members of the public are experiencing bogus door to door bucket collections by con artists, claiming to be from the charity.
It says going door to door isn’t a fundraising technique of theirs
CEO of Women’s Aid, Sarah Benson has this advice.
Some of the areas reported to be hot spots for scammers are Blanchardstown and the surrounding Dublin 15 area, as well as Cllr Ciaran Perry’s patch - of Drumcondra and Phibsborough.
He says the big concern is for vulnerable elderly people.
People are being reminded that charity workers - which do operate door to door fundraising, will always carry legitimate ID, so don’t be afraid to ask for it.
