Exam students told to mind their mental health

All FM104 News

Exam students are being urged to relax tonight.

The Leaving and Junior Cert kicks off with English tomorrow morning.

Pupils are being encouraged to be aware of their emotional wellbeing.

Dr. Colman Noctor, with St Patrick's Mental Health Services, says the key this evening is to relax.

"The temptation this evening is to cram, and to try and do as much as possible," he said.

"What's probably more important, in terms of mindset is to try and get yourself relaxed. Anxiety is a good thing, and it's absolutely understandable that you'd feel anxious the night before a state exam.

"You have to make sure your anxiety doesn't creep into panic, because panic creates chaos, and that's when anxiety stops being helpful."
