One garda was taken to hospital after being stabbed with a broken bottle.

The Garda Representative Association says an attack on two Gardaí in Dublin is a "stark reminder" of the dangers their members face on a daily basis.

One of the injured has received hospital treatment, after being stabbed repeatedly in the arm with a broken bottle yesterday afternoon.

A garda spokesperson confirmed a man in his 20s has been charged in connection with an investigation into the incident, and is due before Cloverhill District Court in Dublin on Tuesday:

"The man, aged in his 20s, who was arrested in relation to this investigation has been charged.

"He appeared before Dublin District Court at the Criminal Courts of Justice this afternoon, Saturday, 8th March 2025 where he was remanded in custody to appear again before Cloverhill District Court on Tuesday, 11th March 2025."

The GRA president says he wishes their colleague a speedy recovery after being hospitalised following 'an extremely difficult situation' in Dublin's Abbey Street yesterday lunchtime.

Another member also received injuries in the attack and Mark O'Meara says the association's thoughts are with them both, and with their families.

"I would just like to wish our injured colleague a speedy recovery in what was an extremely difficult situation.

"Once again this a stark reminder of the dangers our members face on a daily basis while carrying out their duties and protecting the public.

"Another member also received injuries in the incident and our thoughts are with them both and their families. "While it can be rewarding, a career in policing can be an extremely dangerous one and there is never a reason or excuse for attacks and assaults on our members. I commend these colleagues on their bravery and actions today and also any members who find themselves in harms way while policing the frontline," he added.
