More funding has been allocated to the service that helps smokers quit in 2025.

The HSE's 'QUIT' service will be busier than ever to start 2025.

It's welcome news that the programme has received fresh funding to expand into the new year.

Martina Blake, National Lead of the HSE's Tobacco Free Programme, says they're 'really busy' so far in January.

"We have extended our opening hours on the QUIT line. We are open 7 days a week for the month of January and open until 10pm at night."

Martina is encouraging anyone thinking of quitting smoking or giving up tobacco to seek help in doing so.

"If you go on to Quit.ie and search for stop smoking clinics."

"We have more than 50 different services and you can make an appointment with your local Stop Smoking advisor there," Martina says.

"Anybody that's thinking of quitting for the New Year - call our services - not do it alone."

"If you get the right support with trained advisors and access medication, you can double your chances of quitting."

The percentage of people smoking in Ireland was 17% in 2024.

It's thought one in five people aged 25-34 still smoke.
