Dublin City Council has ordered an internal investigation into how Extinction Rebellion activists were allowed to set up camp in Merrion Square last week.
The Irish Times is reporting that Council chief, Owen Keegan, is extremely unhappy with how the matter was dealt with by Council staff.
Addressing complaints from a local resident he said the group didn't get permission from the council to stay in the park; and that instead the decision was made by local parks management not to evict them.
A protocol is expected to be put in place so that any similar issues that arise in the future are handled differently.
