Over the past week eight separate incidents arose in the Dublin Wicklow area, with a number of other incidents being reported around the country.
There's a warning for first-time swimmers to be extra cautious during these colder months.
There's been eight callouts to the Dublin/Wicklow area in the last week alone, to help open swimmers in difficulty.
The Coast Guard and RNLI's issued a joint plea for newcomers to consult with more seasoned swimmers before taking to the sea.
Dun Loaghaire coxwain Mark McGibney has more advice;
"Bring a friend, swim together in groups and try and swim in sheltered areas," he said.
"If you can't, then swim parallel to the shore where you can put your feet down in shallower waters.
"In this kind of climate a wetsuit would be very, very good to help keep yourself warm.
"Try and get into the water slowly as opposed to jumping in and risking cold water shock."
