Light Rail boss gives update on Metrolink

Dublin, which is ranked as the 35th most congested city globally, has faced delays over the much-needed upgrade to public transport.

The head of light rail at TII says completing the Metro by 2035 is feasible.

The long running project was initially predicted to be built by 2027 after first being mooted back in 2005.

An oral hearing on the 9.5 billion euro MetroLink, that will connect Swords with the city centre, was held earlier this year.

Paolo Carbone from Transport Infrastructure Ireland says they've taken their time to assess all aspects of the project.

"Assuming that the railway order, which is not in our control, is granted early next year we can then progress to start the procurements," he said.

"The timeline of the Metro is highly feasible, it's a long construction project."
