The Status Red warning for the capital is in place until 11am.

11:37: An update from Dublin Fire Brigade and their Live Tracker with any new incidents: 

  • A van has been blown over by wind on the Stillorgan Park Road.
  • Trees are down on Edmondstown Road near the entrance to the Golf Club. 
  • There's also fallen trees on the N81 Blessington Rd near the turn-off for Mount Seskin. 
  • There's an oil spill on Dartry Rd at its junction with Orwell Park. 
  • A fire is being dealt with on Donnybrook Rd near Bective sports grounds. 
  • Trees and debris are affecting traffic in Finglas on the Old Finglas Rd and North Rd near the Charlestown Roundabout. 
  • A tree is down on the Airport Rd (R108) at Knocksedan. 
  • A fallen tree is being dealt with on The Hill (R124) in Malahide. 

11:00: Dublin's Status Red Alert for wind has now been downgraded to Orange. It will remain that way until midday, with a Status Yellow wind warning until 4pm. 

10:35: The first flight is due to land at Dublin Airport around 11am. Hundreds of flights were cancelled or delayed this morning due to the high winds. The DAA is advising passengers to check with airlines before travelling to the airport. 

10:23: Dublin local authorities are asking people to report any trees down that they come across.

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is reporting some down across the area in Foxrock, Woodpark, Glenageary Road, Sutton Field, and Slate Cabin Lane.

It says crews will be out once it is safe. Reports can be made by email to info@dlrcoco.ie or by calling 01 2054700.

Fingal says issues can be reported to them via  01 8905000. It’s asking people not to use social media to report problems.

Once the warning lifts and it is safe to do so, teams will be out.

10:07: Footage has emerged this morning of the ice rink in Blanchardstown destroyed as a result of the storm. Locals in the area are being warned to watch out for flying debris. 

09.30: A meeting of the country's emergency team is underway as they assess damage caused by the Storm. 

09.00: Dublin Fire Brigade have been called to reports of scaffolding being down near Harold's Cross. 

08.55: Met Éireann is urging people to be aware of the varying times when the Status Red alert will cease.

08:45: DUBLIN AIRPORT - It's estimated around 230 flights have been cancelled this morning according to DAA. 

Boarding is expected to start after 9am with some airlines waiting until later this morning, but delays and cancellations can be expected. 

Ryanair, who planned on operating a full schedule, had all of their flights cancelled earlier. 

The DAA is advising to check with airline providers for updates.

08.40: ESB UPDATE: Storm Éowyn update: 715,000 homes, farms and businesses are now without power

A spokesperson said:There has been unprecedented, widespread and extensive damage to electricity infrastructure so far with power outages nationwide now affecting 715,000 customers as of 8:00a.m; we anticipate significant further outages as Storm Éowyn continues to track across the country 

08:20: More Incidents in Dublin to be aware of (Dublin Fire Brigading are updating a Live Map here)

  • Two trees are down in Firhouse one on Killinniny Rd near the playground and another on Daletree Avenue. 
  • Dublin Fire Brigade are attending to a loose structure at Dun Laoghaire Harbour this morning. 
  • A tree is still down on Nutley Lane in Donnybrook near St Vincent's Hospital. 
  • Two trees are down in the Rathmines area - one on Castlewood Ave near Ranelagh and another on Rathmines Rd near Murphy's Pub and the Tesco. 
  • A chimney fire is being dealt with on Clogher Rd at the Grand Canal. 
  • Fires are also being dealt with near Markievicz Park in Ballyfermot. 
  • On the northside a tree is down on the Malahide Rd near the entrance to McDonalds. 
  • Not far away, another tree has fallen on Greencastle Road near the Stardust Memorial Park. 
  • A loose structure is being dealt with then on the Finglas Rd near the roundabout at Charlestown. 
  • And another tree is down on the Swords Rd near the entrance to Airside Retail Park.

  • There is a small fire on the Old Naas Rd off Newlands Cross flyover so take care. 
  • Two trees are down in Firhouse, one on Daletree Avenue and another on Killinniny Road near the playground. 
  • A tree is also down in Donnybrook blocking part of Nutley Lane near the entrance to St Vincent's Hospital. 
  • A tree has fallen on a car on the Rathmines Road Upper near Murphy's Pub and the Maxwell Rd jct. 
  • There is a loose structure on the Finglas Rd near the roundabout at Charlestown. 
  • And another tree is down in Swords at the entrance to Airside Retail Park.

07.50: Dublin Airport says that around 230 flights in and out of the airport have so far been cancelled as a result of Storm Éowyn. 

07:35: Met Éireann has updated its weather warnings for later today once the Status Red warning lapses. Dublin will now be under a Status Yellow warning from 12 noon. 

07:30 Dublin Bus - No services are currently operating under the Status Red Warning, but it's hoped they can be re-introduced on a gradual basis later today. 

A spokesperson said: ""Following updates from Met Eireann, Dublin Bus services are not currently operating during the Status Red Warning which is due to last until 11am today. Services will be severely impacted in the hours after the Status Red Warning is in effect. Although the Status Red warning ends at 11:00, services will be reintroduced on a gradual basis as employees return to work safely.

 

The safety of our customers and employees is of the highest importance. Dublin Bus will be working with the NTA and other public transport operators during and after Storm Éowyn. We are taking advice from Met Eireann and the National Department of Fire and Emergency (NDFEM), and will continue to monitor the situation as the storm evolves. Our Severe Weather Team is meeting regularly to assess the situation. Our Inspectors will be out assessing routes to make sure we can serve our customers safely as soon as possible.

07:25: Dublin Travel - No travel is advised during the Status Red warning, but Dublin Fire Brigade has a 'Live Incident' map that can be accessible via the link below for emergencies. 

07:10: Irish Rail updates - A reminder that no DART or Intercity services are running for the duration of the Red warning. It's expected trains will be disrupted in the aftermath if any damage is made to the lines. 

07.00: Dublin Airport updates - As of 03.30AM on Friday, more than 110 scheduled departures and 110 arrivals have been cancelled by airlines for Friday. Those totals include the vast majority of flights scheduled to depart and arrive before 09.00.

06:30: More than half a million homes and businesses across the country are now without power as Storm Éowyn makes its mark. 

In a statement issued this morning, the ESB says the number of outages is unprecedented, as a result of widespread and extensive damage to electricity infrastructure. 

A spokesperson said: "There has been unprecedented, widespread and extensive damage to electricity infrastructure so far with power outages nationwide affecting 560,000 customers as of 6:00a.m; we anticipate significant further outages as Storm Éowyn moves across the country"

"An Important Public Safety Message: If you come across fallen wires or damaged electricity network, never, ever touch or approach these as they are LIVE and extremely dangerous. Please report any damage to electricity infrastructure by calling 1800 372 999"

"ESB Networks crews and partner contractors will be deployed when safe to do so, to assess the network and work to safely restore power as quickly as possible in challenging conditions."

"Given the predicted extent of the damage nationwide, we anticipate restoration will take a significant number of days.  Estimated restoration times (ERTs) will only be provided once our teams have assessed network faults and these will be available to view throughout Saturday on www.PowerCheck.ie."

Early this morning, the Dublin Fire Brigade have also warned there is a tree car collision near Myra Manor which has resulted in the Malahide road being blocked. 

We're also being reminded that a Status Red warning means there is a threat to life and to shelter inside. 

Storm Éowyn is also making records for all the wrong reasons with a gust of 183km/hr being recorded in Connemara this morning, breaking a near 80 year old record.
