The Mater Hospital has limited activity to essential services only from yesterday evening.
This means outpatient appointments and elective surgeries will be reduced to essential services until further notice.
The Mater says it regrets the impact this will have on its patients and it's also extremely busy with high numbers attending.

However, it says these new arrangements are necessary to deal with the impact of the latest wave of Covid-19.
Where possible it's advising patients to seek help from their GP or local injury clinic unless they think they need hospital care.
