The introduction of 30km/h speed zones across large parts of Dublin has been hailed a success.
That's despite the fact that average speeds in all areas remain over that limit.
According to the Times Ireland, Dublin city council chiefs have expressed satisfaction that average speed limits had dropped in most areas where the lower limit had been introduced earlier this year.
However, this recent survey, carried out on 40 streets between the Grand and Royal canals covered by the reduced speed limit, show that average speeds had only fallen at 32 locations.
The average speed in most of the areas is still over 40km/h.
DCC says in intends to go ahead with the next phase of the project in 2018 - which will see the roll out the lower limit across other parts of the city and suburbs.
