A 400 million euro redevelopment plan for O'Devaney Garden's has been given the green light.
It will consist of over 1,000 apartments and 23 houses, with half of them made up of social and affordable units.
One of the apartments blocks is to reach 14 storeys in height with two others rising to 12 storeys.
The developers Bartra say they will begin construction preparations before the end of the year, with work continuing until 2025.
Cllr Ray McAdam, Chair of the O'Devaney Garden's Community Consultative Forum, is welcoming the landmark decision.
