Stepaside is one of 5 Garda stations to re-open.
But it may only be temperary for the southside location.
Acting Garda Commissioner John O'Driscoll is suggesting keeping Stepaside open while a station in nearby Cherrywood is built.
It's estimated by 2030 there'll be an extra 7,700 homes in the area, and a population of 30,000 left with limited Garda cover.
The other stations coming back into operation are Rush, Leighlinbridge in Carlow, Donard in Wicklow, Bawnboy in Cavan and Ballinspittle in Cork.
