Local reps say keeping the full rate could bring in an extra €16M.
It looks like homeowners here in Dublin will pay a higher rate of property tax next year as a result of a vote being held by Dublin City Council tonight. They're holding a vote to remove a 15 per cent discount on the tax for the first time in over a decade. Local reps say keeping the full rate could bring in an extra €16M.
Reps from Sinn Féin however, say Dubliners are being unfairly punished by the high price of housing, and the hike could have a massive impact, whether you're a homeowner or a renter.
Dublin City Council management claim that the vast majority of homeowners would not be hit with substantial additional charges if councillors agreed to reduce the discount applied.
