Dogs are continuing to be dumped across the country despite the baltic conditions.

Animal rescues say they've seen a number of pets dumped during the cold snap.

As the country grapples with icy conditions and below freezing temperatures, dogs have been picked up all across the country, some of them barely alive.

Martina Kenny from My Lovely Horse Rescue tells us things have never been worse:

"It's just constant.  I'm about to deal with a poor springer spaniel that was dumped in Kilcock, and God love him he was freezing cold and wet.

"This is the problem, if an animal is wet, and a lot of them will be because of the snow and rain falling on the heat or slight heat of their bodies, then they can't dry because it's freezing cold.

"Even in this weather people aren't thinking.

"What I will say, if you want to get rid of an animal, please just try and hold that animal for as long as you can, because there is a dog crisis, there is an animal crisis full stop.

"But especially dogs at the moment, we can't keep up with it, it's just insane.

"Dig down deep in your heart of hearts for some sort of feeling towards that animal, keep it safe, keep it warm.

"You can then get in touch with us, get in touch with other rescues, and get in touch with the local pounds.  I know they're really full but they will put you on a waiting list.

"We've had to do the same, we have people everyday begging us, but we have nowhere for them to go."
