It follows the announcement that major retailer New Look would be shutting up shop.

A second fashion retailer has announced it would be closing - just days after New Look closed down.

Scottish-based Quiz clothing said it would be winding up operations, with five of its stores in Ireland shuttered.

The Irish Times reports that 54 jobs will be lost as a result.

It's believed the Irish closures will include shops at The Square, Athlone Town Centre shopping centre, Newbridge, Whitewater shopping centre in Kildare, Erneside shopping centre in Enniskillen and Richmond shopping centre in Derry.

In a statement to the Irish Sun, the Chief Executive of Quiz, Sheraz Ramzan, said: "The Board took the difficult decision to appoint administrators to Zandra Retail Limited in light of the continuing challenging trading conditions impacting the Group's performance.

"We are deeply sorry to those affected by the store closures, including our retail colleagues. However, this decision will put the business in a more sustainable footing for the future and protect several hundred jobs as a result."

It comes just days after New Look announced it would close its Irish shop with almost 350 staff expected to be made redundant.

The owners of the fashion group said the business was "no longer viable".
