The trial for a controversial cycleway in South Dublin will get underway at the start of 2021.
From the 15th of January and for a period of six months, traffic on Strand Road in Sandymount will be reduced to one lane.
A community group had put forward an alternative plan, but that’s been rejected by the NTA.
Local Councillor Dermot Lacey says concerns still remain over traffic being rerouted onto smaller residential roads:
"The cars and traffic have to go somewhere; there is an argument that it will be dispersed all over and that it won't have a big impact.
"But we have to see if that does happen and if it does happen we have to take measures to ensure that we minimise those.
"I want to see more cycleways, I want to see better cycling infrastructure but we have to do that carefully."
