Dublin Airport was full of emotion this afternoon, as people make their way home for Christmas.

Over 1.2 million passengers will pass through the gates over the next few days.

Those were the sounds of the school choir that greeted travellers from far and wide who’ve made it home for the holidays.

Over the Christmas period, there’ll be 90-thousand passengers flowing through the departure and arrival gates here.

Siobhan O’Donnell from Dublin Airport says this’ll be the busiest Christmas season in their 79-year history:

"That's 3% up on last Christmas, it's quite spectacular. Amazing scenes here, it would met the coldest heart. Anybody coming to the airport over the next couple of days - they're an absolute must."

As the long haul flights started to come in from places like Los Angeles, New York and Vancoover, families became reunited once again:

The last flight coming into Dublin Airport before Christmas is from Fuerteventura at a quarter-to eleven on Christmas Eve.
