Three hospitals across the country are said to be "under pressure" due to Covid-19.
Limerick, Naas and Letterkenny are feeling the strain due to in-patients with the virus.
In UHL today there are 161 staff out, while there are 77 employees absent in Naas.
HSE Boss Paul Reid says the facilities are experiencing a significant impact:
"Some positive cases and also close contacts and indeed some patients as well.
"So we are losing a lot of staff on shifts and it's causing significant disruption in those three hospitals.
"In one case we've had to cease all elective care; they are now back where they were in April of just doing urgent care.
"That's in Naas and it gives you the impact of it immediately."
