Gardaí will have an increased presence on the roads until 7am on Tuesday morning.
After a number of tragic road collisions and crashes in recent weeks, operation 'Slow Down' has taken on increased urgency and relevance.
Since the start of the year, there's been 127 deaths on Irish roads. An increase of 23 since the same period last year.
According to Gardaí, one in three road deaths have been people under the age of 25.
25% of the deaths were pedestrians and another 25% were passengers in the vehicles.
The aim of 'Slow Down Day' is to remind drivers to increase compliance with speed limits while behind the wheel.
