The Open golf championship has joined the list of major events that have been cancelled because of the coronavirus outbreak.
This summer's tournament was scheduled to begin on the 16th of July at Royal St George's in Kent but will now take place at the same course in 2021.
This will be the first year without the sport's most prestigious major since 1945, during World War Two.
It is with a heavy heart that we have to cancel The Open for the first time since WWII. We appreciate that this will be disappointing for a great many people but we have to act responsibly during this pandemic and it is the right thing to do.
