
The death has been announced of former Dublin All-Ireland Camogie winner, Betty 'Gerry' Hughes.
Betty played ten seasons in blue between 1954 and 1963, in that time, she won nine All Ireland titles, twice as captain in 1961 and 1962.
From Inchicore on the south side of the city. she made her Dublin debut against Antrim in 1954.

Dublin Camogie said; "She is always remembered for a wonderful sporting gesture in 1961 when as captain of the winning All-Ireland side she handed the O'Duffy Cup to the legendary Kay Mills as Kay was picking up her 15th Senior All-Ireland medal that day and it was widely known it was Kay's final game."
Marking her significant role in Dublin's golden era for Camogie, she was placed into the Echo Sports hall of fame in December 2018, where she recieved a standing ovation by former players and her family.
