Along with Matt Fitzpatrick, they beat Collin Morikawa and Xander Schaufele 5-and-3 in the afternoon four-balls.
McIlroy teamed with Tommy Fleetwood earlier to win their match in the morning foursomes.
Shane Lowry also earned a point this morning - teaming with rookie Sepp Straka.
After a 4-0 sweep for Europe in the morning foursomes - USA couldn't bring back a full point in the fourballs.
They managed three half scores bringing their total after Day One to 1 1/2.
Europe finished Day One on 6 1/2.
So it's a five-point advantage for Team Europe heading into tomorrow's pairings in Rome.
