Rory McIlroy missed out in dramatic circumstances on the final day of the Dubai Desert Classic this afternoon.
McIlroy needed a birdie on the final hole to give him the victory over fellow leaders, Norway's Viktor Hovland and Englishman Richard Bland.
However, after finding the water he bogeyed the the final hole and missed out on the playoff, finishing third.
Hovland went on to win the play off having been three behind with three to play.
