St. Vincent's survive Lucan Sarsfields scare

St. Vincent's are into the last four of the Dublin Senior Football Championship but not without a fright.

They edged out Lucan Sarsfields by 1-14 to 2-8 at Parnell Park on Thursday night in their quarter-final.

In a match that never really saw Vins pull clear they were leading by five points, 1-12 to 1-7, with ten minutes to play before Lucan scored a rapid 1-1. Goals from Brendan Gallagher and and Andrew Hope took Lucan to within a single point heading into stoppage time.

However a point apiece in injury-time from Diarmuid Connolly and Albert Martin sealed a three-point victory for St Vincent's who now go on to play Ballymun Kickhams in the semi-finals.

St. Vicent's manager, Tommy Carr, told FM104 Sport that they weren't surprised that Lucan gave them such a stiff challenge. "We totally expected what we got from Lucan," he said.

"They're a very big, physical side. They're always a good, hard, honest team and very difficult and tenacious team to play against.

"We had a little bit of resilience and we never paniced. We weren't at our best and we weren't allowed to be at our best by a very, very good Lucan side who were well organised and who just worked so hard."
