Unclear If Jim Gavin's Replacement Will Be Found Tonight

All Sport

It's not clear if Jim Gavin's replacement as Dublin senior football manager will be appointed at a meeting of the Dublin County Board tonight.

Former players Dessie Farrell and Declan Darcy are believed to be the front runners for the vacant position.

County Board chairman, Sean Shanley, has already indicated his preference for some level of continuity.

When Jim Gavin took over from Pat Gilroy ahead of the 2013 season, Sam Maguire had visited the capital just once in the previous 17 years, but he led them through an unbelievable period of success.

The team celebrated a victory of five All Ireland's in a row this year under his leadership.

The only Championship defeat during his tenure came in the 2014 All-Ireland semi-final against Donegal.

The former Dublin GAA manager got an honorary doctorate from DCU just yesterday.
